Neurodiversity & Autism
AANE (The Asperger/Autism Network)
Watertown, MA & New York City
AANE is an internationally acclaimed organization; since 2016 it has been an instrumental resource for Dr. Nomi.*
AANE helps neurodiverse people on the autism spectrum as well as other neurodiverse profiles
(Dyscalculia, Dysgraphia, Hyperlexia, Meares-Irlen Syndrome, Nonverbal Learning Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Synesthesia, Tourette Syndrome, and related Anxiety, Depression and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) to build meaningful, connected lives. They provide individuals, families, and professionals with information, education, community, support, and advocacy, in an inclusive atmosphere of validation and respect. AANE was founded in 1996 after Asperger's first appeared in the DSM-IV.
* Dr. Nomi found AANE after attending a life-altering "ah ha moment" workshop for psychologists, led by Dr. Wilma Wake, Dr. Eric Endlich, & Robert Lagos, all of whom were diagnosed with autism much later in life. They are the co-investigators and authors of "Older Autistic Adults: The lost generation" a study of people with autism who were born before 1967, and raised without a name or rubric to comprehend their differences. Their ground-breaking research findings and additional resources can be found at:
